Background
- There are inquiries from F/D/U/P on how to allow students not-yet registered to join ZOOM classes before and during the add/drop period.
- Current situations
- The University does not currently have a database of ZOOM meeting join info of all class sections
- Blackboard is commonly used by teachers to share ZOOM meeting join info with students. They either:
- Use the ZOOM integration in Blackboard to create ZOOM meetings for the Blackboard class and allow students to have access to the ZOOM meeting join URLs and the ZOOM meeting cloud recordings via the ZOOM integration in Blackboard.
- Create ZOOM meetings in CUHK ZOOM portal and post the ZOOM meeting join URLs to the Blackboard course for students
- For Blackboard access, by default:
- UG classes: CUSIS added students of the class sections will have access to the corresponding Blackboard course
- PG classes: CUSIS added and waitlisted students of the class sections will have access to the will have access to the corresponding Blackboard course. There is a mechanism to remove waitlisted students in CUSIS for PG classes before and after the add/drop period.
Pilot arrangement for 2020/21 Term 1
- For Blackboard access:
- Before and during the add/drop period (Sept 6-25):
- For UG classes, change to CUSIS added and waitlisted students of the class sections will have access to the corresponding Blackboard course
- If teachers/F/D/U/P do not want to allow waitlisted students to access the corresponding Blackboard course(s), they can apply to opt out from the arrangement.
- After add/drop period:
- For UG classes, change to CUSIS added students of the class sections will have access to the corresponding Blackboard courses. All waitlisted students of the class sections will no longer have access to the corresponding Blackboard courses.
- Teachers will have to update the ZOOM meeting passcode (and the meeting join URL will change to a new one) to stop waitlisted students’ access to the ZOOM meetings.
- Before and during the add/drop period (Sept 6-25):
Impact
- Waitlisted students of the UG class sections will have access to the corresponding Blackboard course and the ZOOM meeting info of the classes shared in the Blackboard courses before and during the add/drop period (Sept 6-25).
Additional notes
- If there are students who want to sit in but they can’t at least get waitlisted in the class section in CUSIS, he/she will still have to contact the respective teacher/F/D/U/P for the ZOOM meeting info to sit in (i.e. join the ZOOM meetings).
Special Requests
- F/D/U/P should submit complete the ADWL_Special_Request_Template and return to elearning@cuhk.edu.hk if they would like to request for the following before Sept 4 (Fri):
- Opt out from this pilot arrangement (i.e. not to allow waitlisted students to access their UG Blackboard courses)
- Allow waitlisted students' access to their UG Blackboard courses earlier (before Sept 6)
