Create Video Assignment Folder on Panopto Cloud


  • A new Panopto System ( has been set up on AWS Singapore region to support the collection of student video assignments.
  • This article covers the steps on how to create the video assignment folder, some remarks, and the best practices.

Step-by-Step instructions

  1. Add Panopto Cloud Video Assignment link in Blackboard course content area

    1. You can access a content area in your Blackboard Course. Access “Tools” > “More Tools” > “Panopto Cloud Course Tool”.
    2. You are advised to update the link name to indicate this link is for video assignment submission. Go through the options and click “Submit”.
    3. Click the link that you have just created.
  2. Create assignment folder in Panopto Cloud

    1. Click on “Folder Settings”.
    2. Click on “Create Assignment Folder”.
    3. The assignment folder is created. Close this page.
  3. Rename the assignment folder name

    1. Click on the assignment folder.
    2. You can edit the name of the assignment folder.


  • Creator can only create one assignment folder inside a folder.
  • By default, students can only see their own videos in the assignment folder after the submission.
  • No batch video files download.

Best Practices

  1. Create a trial Panopto Assignment folder for students to have a trial before the assignment submission.
  2. Divide students into groups for different submission deadlines to avoid uploading videos at the same time.
  3. If possible, reduce video size of the assignment. Shorten the video length for one file.
  4. Provide instructions for students to upload videos in correct format.
  5. Remind students to check if the video can be successfully processed the next day.
  6. Prepare contingency plan in case there are any issues regarding video assignment submission in Panopto Cloud. E.g. Students can upload their videos to cloud (e.g. OneDrive) and share the video link with you:
    • OneDrive for Business
      • Note: CUHK staff and students are separated groups under “The Chinese University of Hong Kong"
        • Students have to share their videos as “Anyone with the link” with staff, or
        • Staff can apply for a project account in “student cloud” to access the video
